Alecia Neo is a Singapore-based visual artist who uses intimate perspectives, through the lens of individuals, overlooked communities and their spaces, to explore issues of identity and the search for self. Working primarily with photography, video and installation, her work draws from ideas of mobility, reciprocity, caregiving and disability.<\/p>\n

Her debut site-specific project, Villa Alicia<\/em> (2011)<\/a><\/span><\/strong> investigated the fragility of memory through one family\u2019s experience of Alzheimer\u2019s Disease and how it was held in a physical space. The 4,000 square feet private home of late Singaporean feminist Dr. Nalla Tan was transformed into a public gallery, which was demolished shortly after the six-day exhibition. The project was later extended into her installation Goddess of Mercy (2012), commissioned by Art & Faith, the M1 Fringe Festival.<\/p>\n

Resting on the Horizon<\/em> (2012) uncovers the precarious balance between tolerance and expression for foreign workers in Singapore. This was an installation as part of the Fondo Regionale Arte Contemporanea \u2013 The Regional Fund for Contemporary Art (FRAC) Collection Exhibition at Cittadelarte, Biella, Italy, stored and displayed in the Museum of the Present at Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto. In 2012, she completed a four-month residency at Cittadellarte\u2019s Universita delle Idee (Italy) set up by Arte Povera artist Micheangelo Pistoletto, which operates with the agenda of art for social transformation.<\/p>\n

The tactile installation (Singapore) Unseen: Touch Field<\/em> (2014) was commissioned by the Singapore Art Museum for Sensorium 360 was a development towards her long-term art project titled Unseen: Constellations<\/a>,<\/strong><\/span> which seeks to use art as an agent for social change to engage with youths living with visual-impairment.The project was premiered at Objectifs in Singapore in March 2016.<\/p>\n

She is also co-founder and Artist Lead<\/a> for Brack. Her art works have been exhibited in various international festivals and galleries such as Valentine Willie Fine Art (Singapore), Singapore International Photography Festival, the International Orange Festival (China), University of Bangkok (Thailand) and Noordelicht International Photo Festival (Netherlands).<\/p>\n
