{"id":2467,"date":"2020-05-31T22:04:53","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T14:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brack.sg\/?p=2467"},"modified":"2020-06-10T15:19:26","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T07:19:26","slug":"crisis-poem-1-clusterfk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brack.sg\/index.php\/2020\/05\/31\/crisis-poem-1-clusterfk\/","title":{"rendered":"Crisis Poem 1: Clusterf**k"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>COVID Companions is a series of creative pieces featuring snippets of life during COVID-19, with a special focus on the other individuals or creatures who are keeping us company during quarantine, lockdown, \u2018circuit breaker\u2019, or whatever your equivalent might be.<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clusterf**k<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>you moan, you cannot take it any longer:<br>my nights are long and they just got longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of the times i lost count counting, i lose count:<br>my nights that are long are getting longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>what world beyond us rains down in numbers!<br>while our nights are long, they will get longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so much of nothing for all that is brewing<br>for the long nights that are growing longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>now i know why the caged hamster works out<br>for the days are long and getting longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on the streets and in the parks \u2013 runaways!<br>how these days, though long, can still get longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>someone freed a bench from unemployment:<br>my days may be long, they are now longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the land of the masked, the full face is queen:<br>my days, long as they are, got yet longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>nothing is secret that shan\u2019t be revealed:<br>the long days dare not but still got longer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>some kind of trouble \u2013 i hear the walls wail<br>in these long nights that are wailing longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>who is clapping in the dead of darkness?<br>my nights are long and you make them longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>zombies in aimless cars: the witching hour<br>between the long half and the half longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>will you and i remember how we loved once?<br>those nights we knew are no longer longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>smiles forgotten, the eyes\u2019 sudden brightness<br>and longing in the night waxing longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all hours the tv howls in my face<br>since my nights are long, reliving longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>when will the end come? how will it be like?<br>life is short \u2013 yet its nights so much longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Gwee Li Sui<\/strong> is a poet, a graphic artist, and a literary critic.
